Thai Airways International is going to offer halal food to more foreign customer airlines and on its own domestic flights after receiving certification that it meets the purchasing, production and preparation standards required by Islamic dietary law, said the company.
Certification was awarded last month by the Institute for Halal Food Standards of Thailand. THAI's halal kitchen is fully separate from its regular catering facility at Suvarnabhumi and the national carrier recently got permission from the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand to use the halal logo after the latter carried out an inspection tour.
Nowdays, THAI distributes halal food to 10 customer airlines and on its own international flights to Islamic countries such as the UAE, Pakistan and Malaysia - a total of 5,000 meals a day. It now intends to extend this service to more customers as well as set up a halal kitchen at Don Mueang Airport to serve domestic passengers.
