Prasobsuk elected as Thailand's Senate Speaker



Prasobsuk Boondech was elected Friday as Thailand's Senate Speaker.

Prasobsuk won 78 out of a total of 144 votes.

The first and second rivals are Taweesak Kidbanchong and Gen Lertrat Rattanawanich who got 45 and 15 votes respectively.

Gen Lertrat has the backing of Ben Winai Phattiyakul, the defense permanent secretary and a former member of the Council for National Security, and other senators from the armed forces.

The upper house began its meeting on Friday morning to elect house speaker.

Kamol Prachuabmoh, the eldest senator, becomes the temporary speaker and chairs the meeting.
